A West Country promoter writes:
"I regularly book bands and solo musicians for gigs and festivals. With hundreds of acts out there, it’s impossible for me to go and see them all live - I need to be able to hear something online that demonstrates their musical character. It's surprising how, even now, some acts have no internet audio presence, or rely on a dodgy film clip made on someone's phone. Sadly, that usually puts me off!"
"You don’t need a flash video or a full-scale studio production: three songs with minimal overdubs, a photo and a description of the line-up are enough for me to make a judgment, and I've booked many acts on that basis."
